What you need to know about WorldSpace

WorldSpace is a satellite radio provider that offers its digital satellite audio, data and multimedia services internationally. WorldSpace radio is the only satellite radio company with the rights to broadcast to the world's globally allocated spectrum for digital satellite radio, offering its diverse entertainment to more people and spanning over 130 countries.

International Satellite Radio

WorldSpace radio has a diverse geographical range. In addition to covering Western Europe and the Middle East, WorldSpace is moving into emerging markets with its new divisions, WorldSpace Africa and WorldSpace Asia. To all of its markets, WorldSpace provides sports, music, news and educational programming.

What WorldSpace Has to Offer

WorldSpace radio broadcasts over 62 channels, 38 of which feature content provided by international, national and regional third parties, such as NPR and BBC. The remaining 24 are WorldSpace channels, branded by or exclusively for WorldSpace radio. These include Radio Amore, which plays exclusively love songs (by such artists as Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand), and Farishta, which plays music from the popular Hindi films of the ’40s, ’50s, ’60s and ’70s.

A complete list of channel offerings is available online; keep in mind, however, that certain channels are only available through the AfriStar or AsiaStar satellites. These are marked online with a cross or a star respectively.

With satellite radio stations dedicated to music, news, talk, religious programming, sports and education—all from around the globe—WorldSpace offers the widest variety of channels of any satellite radio provider.

All these channels and programs, of course, can only be accessed by those who have the appropriate equipment and WorldSpace subscriptions. Different packages are available in different countries, so the programming choices available depend on the user’s location. Of course, each WorldSpace division also offers packages at different price ranges, depending on the specific channels the user wants from among the available regional programming.

With such a wide geographical span and such diverse programming options, WorldSpace is well on its way to becoming a truly global satellite radio provider.
